What is a birth doula?

Birth doulas build relationships with expecting families to help them have a positive birth experience. We facilitate conversations between the birthing person and their health care provider, provide non-judgemental support for birth choices, and support the family through labor, birth, and early postpartum. “We work with our minds, hearts, and hands and are a bridge to many other forms of care.” -Amanda & Maria, BEST Doula Training

Who should have a birth doula?

Everyone who will experience pregnancy & childbirth.

Is my doula my advocate?

As your doula, I am NOT your best advocate, but you are. I teach and encourage you to advocate for yourself and provide you with information so you can make informed decisions.

Do I need a doula if I have a great partner?

Yes! Doula’s don’t just support the birthing person, but their partners as well. The birth of a baby is life changing for the non-birthing parent too. Your doula is there to support you directly as well as help you provide support while welcoming this little one. Doulas and partners make a great team.


What is Placenta Encapsulation?

The practice of steaming, dehydrating, grinding, and encapsulating your placenta to ingest after birth.

What are the benefits of Placenta Encapsulation?

Placentophagy is believed to increase milk supply, increase iron and hormone levels, help balance mood and energy, and decrease the occurrence of postpartum depression.


What is a Postpartum Doula?

A postpartum doula provides support after your baby is born in the comfort of your home. A postpartum doula can provide a variety of support such as breastfeeding information, newborn care tips, sibling support, companionship, household duties, and meal prep.

What are the benefits of a Postpartum Doula?

Everyone knows bringing home a new baby is life changing. Postpartum doulas can help with the transitions that come with a newborn. Someone to care for the baby while the parents shower or spend one-on-one time with other children, help keep the laundry going, the dishes clean, giving reminders that you are doing your best. 

Why take an out-of-hospital Childbirth Class?

This out-of-hospital course is evidence-based and will allow you to take the knowledge you learn and combine it with your own intuition to make decisions about your birth and not sway you towards someone else's preferences.

I want or am considering an epidural. Should I take this childbirth class?

It is open to anyone choosing any type of birth. Being prepared for anything makes everything better!

What’s included in the childbirth class?

The course is six weeks and is divided into six sessions. The course provides evidence based information. 

  • who we are in birth, growing uterus,  providers, birth place, and support.

  • nurturing ourselves, pregnancy journey, coping, and connecting.

  • communication, informed consent, and the care of me

  • where my baby lies, labor, and cesarean

  • delivery, postpartum, and healing

  • postpartum dynamics and mental health

What if I can’t make it to class?

You will have access to an online make up course for a small fee for up to two missed classes.
